About BankOfferScout

Independent U.S. banking research built to make the fine print, operating rules and real tradeoffs behind deposit accounts easier to understand.

Our operating principle

Banking decisions are usually won or lost in the details: eligibility, account fees, balance requirements, deposit timing, withdrawal restrictions, promotional deadlines and the difference between an advertised headline and the value a customer can actually keep. BankOfferScout is built to make those details easier to inspect.

What BankOfferScout is

BankOfferScout is an independent U.S.-focused banking research publication. Our coverage is designed for people comparing deposit accounts and everyday banking relationships: checking accounts, savings and high-yield savings accounts, certificates of deposit, bank bonuses and promotions, business banking, bank-to-bank comparisons, and the operational rules that affect how an account works after it is opened.

We do not try to imitate a bank's marketing page. A bank may emphasize a bonus, an APY, a branch network or a particular feature. Our job is to put that headline in context: what a reader has to do to qualify, what may reduce the value, what happens after the promotional period, what alternatives deserve comparison, and which terms should be checked again immediately before applying.

What we cover

Offers & promotions

Qualification rules, direct-deposit requirements, funding requirements, deadlines, payout timing, account-retention requirements and the practical value of a promotion after fees or opportunity cost.

Checking & payments

Monthly fees, waiver conditions, overdraft policy, ATM access, direct deposit, ACH, wires, debit-card access, account restrictions and payment operations.

Savings & CDs

APY mechanics, balance tiers, liquidity, transfer access, fixed-term tradeoffs, early-withdrawal penalties, maturity rules, renewal rules and deposit-insurance context.

Business banking

Account eligibility, cash deposits, transaction allowances, ACH and wires, treasury features, user permissions, fraud controls, operating costs and account-management workflows.

How our research works

We start with primary material whenever possible. That includes official bank and credit-union product pages, fee schedules, account agreements, promotional terms, support documentation and institution disclosures. For broader banking rules and system mechanics, we use authoritative sources such as the FDIC, NCUA, CFPB, Federal Reserve, Nacha, FinCEN, IRS and other relevant agencies or payment networks.

Each content page carries an organizational editorial byline, a separate review attribution, a visible review date, links to original or official sources, a Related Research section and an Editorial Verdict. The source links are there so a reader can inspect the underlying material rather than taking our summary on faith.

Read our methodology

Who produces BankOfferScout

BankOfferScout uses transparent organizational editorial desks rather than invented individual experts. The desk named on a page identifies the research function responsible for that topic. The Research Standards Desk performs a separate quality-control role focused on source quality, attribution, freshness, consistency and corrections.

This structure is intentionally explicit: a desk name is an editorial function, not a claim that a fictitious person wrote or reviewed the page. You can see the scope and standards for each desk in the Editorial Desks directory.

Editorial independence

Commercial relationships, display advertising or affiliate compensation do not buy favorable conclusions, a particular ranking, inclusion in a comparison or removal of criticism. When compensation is connected to a link or placement, that relationship should be disclosed clearly and close enough to the commercial content that a reader can understand it before acting.

BankOfferScout does not accept a bank's marketing copy as a substitute for research. Institutions may point us to official documentation or report a factual issue, but editorial interpretation and correction decisions remain ours.

Freshness and time-sensitive banking facts

Banking information changes quickly. APYs may move without notice. Promotional offers may expire or be withdrawn. A bank may change monthly fees, waiver rules, product availability, geographic eligibility, transfer limits or account-opening requirements after a page is reviewed.

For that reason, our pages distinguish between durable mechanics and volatile facts. When a current number is material to the decision, we date or source it. When a number changes too frequently to remain reliable in static copy, we may explain the decision framework and send the reader to the bank's live page rather than freeze an undated figure.

Corrections and accountability

If we confirm an error, we correct the affected page and recheck connected pages that may repeat the same fact. Material changes can include fees, APYs, offer requirements, eligibility, account availability, deposit-insurance context or operational rules. We do not treat a known error as a matter of opinion.

What BankOfferScout is not

BankOfferScout is not a bank, credit union, broker, financial adviser, law firm, accounting firm, tax adviser, credit-repair organization or government agency. We do not open accounts, approve applications, hold deposits, set bank rates, decide eligibility, process payments or control whether a bank honors a promotion.

Our content is general information and research. It is not individualized financial, legal, tax, investment or accounting advice. Before making a decision, confirm current terms with the institution and consider qualified professional advice when your circumstances require it.

How the site may be supported

BankOfferScout may be supported by display advertising and, where activated, affiliate or referral relationships. Compensation can help fund research, hosting, maintenance and editorial work. It does not change our published editorial standards. See the Affiliate Disclosure for the full policy.

Contact and feedback

Readers, institutions and other interested parties may report factual issues, suggest primary sources or raise questions about our policies. See the Contact page for the appropriate channel and what information helps us investigate a correction efficiently.

Please verify before acting. Product availability, rates, bonuses, fees, eligibility and account rules can change after publication. The financial institution's current disclosures and agreements control your actual relationship with that institution.
